Article: The Black Church and Homosexuality

For years, the policy of the black church regarding homosexuality has been, "Don't ask but do tell."

As a result and contrary to popular opinion, the black church has been more than tolerant, if not accepting, of homosexuality. At least in terms of social practice, not theology.

Black Christian theology is not and has never been accepting of homosexuality, and it should not be.

This despite the fact that a number of music ministers, preachers and some pastors in black churches are homosexual and advocate that the black church should accept homosexuality, not just in social covenants but in theological and doctrinal terms.
