Sydney, Aug. 1 -- Using data from a 2.4 metre long Great White Shark caught in beach nets off the NSW Central Coast, scientists are building a 3-D computer model of the beast's jaw in an attempt to test its bite force.
The collaborative project involving NSW DPI, the Universities of NSW, Newcastle and Tampa, Florida, aims to use high resolution 3-D computer simulations to reveal the cranial mechanics, bite force and feeding behaviour of the Great White Shark.
Underwater experiments with live sharks have so far failed to adequately indicate the force of the Great White's bite.
