In late September 2006 Sony finally began shipping its long-awaited electronic paper-based e-book reader-and immediately sold out. The Sony Reader is about the length and width of a large paperback book, is one-half-inch thick, and weighs about nine ounces. ILs key feature is its high-contrast, low-power, six-inch screen, based on a new display technology called "electronic paper" from a company called E Ink. The screen needs no backlighting and consumes no power until you change (or "turn") the page.
