It used to be that, when you talked about "digital printing," everyone knew what you were talking about-toner-based, full-color digital production presses for commercial print production. When these machines were first introduced, they were represented by the Indigo E-Print, Xeikon, and Agfa Chromapress. Today, they are represented by the likes of the HP Indigo, Xeikon, NexPress, and Xerox iGen3.
But more than a decade after the introduction of this technology, the "traditional" definition has become too restrictive. With the entire workflow going digital, "digital printing" could entail output from any of the following technologies and more:
