THE Winnipeg Press Club, long a gathering place for the city's veteran and fledgling newshounds, could soon disappear.
Established in 1887, it's the oldest press club in Canada, located at the Ramada Marlborough Hotel on Smith Street.
But nostalgia alone doesn't pay the mounting bills.
The future of the press club will be decided at an upcoming general meeting.
Debbie Thompson, the club's president, believes the members may decide to write the last chapter in the press club's long history or move the club into office space so it can continue to stage events with rented venues when needed.
Either way, the Winnipeg Press Club bar at the Ramada will close later this month.
