The University of North Carolina-Charlotte issued the following press release:

Dr. Ruth Gwynn Shaw, longtime civic and business leader in Charlotte and tireless advocate of higher education, has been elected chair of the Board of Trustees of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Effective July 9, the new officers were elected to one-year terms on the 13-member board that is responsible for governing the university.

Trustees also re-elected Norman Cohen, a longtime business leader in Charlotte, as vice chair. Elected as secretary was Eugene Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer of FairPoint Communications in Charlotte.
