With a population increase of 20% to 30% every 10 years, Rankin County is well-traveled and in need of new roads.
A trip from Hinds County to Rankin County down Lakeland Drive during rush hour could make even the calmest driver a little harried. So the county, its cities and the state and federal government have responded with over 40 miles of new roads.
Among the plans are a cut-through road from Lakeland Drive to the Brandon subdivision of Crossgates and an airport connector road that would stretch from Rankin County to downtown Jackson.
Population counts show the number of Rankin residents has climbed from 87,161 in 1990 to an estimated 101,396 in 1996. The projected population for 2001 ...
