Advanced optic nerve imaging plays an increasingly important role in diagnosing glaucoma and treating patients with the disease. By assessing the optic nerve and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), clinicians can diagnose glaucoma in a timely manner and monitor disease progression, allowing for appropriate therapeutic adjustments. Key studies, discussed below, have demonstrated the clinical practice benefits of imaging-specifically, Heidelberg Retina Tomography (HRT).
