Article: The truth about Zimbabwe-South Africa economic relations

It is often said that the "Zimbabwean crisis" has had a negative impact on the growth of not only the South African economy but the economies of the SADC region as a whole. This has led to calls (especially by Western governments, their officials and the local opposition) for South Africa to pull the plug on Zimbabwe. Fortunately, a pragmatic Pretoria has treated such calls with the contempt they deserve. In fact, as available figures show, the South African economy relies heavily on doing business with Zimbabwe, and any plug-pulling would be akin to South Africa cutting its nose off to spite its face.
