Article: WYOMING: Proposed Coal-Fired Power Plant May Affect Tribal Interests

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 - The U.S. Agriculture Department's Rural Utilities Service has release a draft environmental impact statement in response to Basin Electric Power Cooperative's application for a loan to construct the Dry Fork Station, a 385 MW coal-fired power plant, near Gillette. The EIS also analyzes the potential environmental impacts of Basin Electric's proposal to construct and operate 136 miles of 230 kV transmission line in Campbell and Sheridan Counties, referred to as the Hughes Transmission Project. Comments are due in 45 days.

Rural Development has scheduled two public meetings on the EIS, one on Sept. 25 in Sheridan one on Sept. 26 in Gillette.
