Concurrent alcohol and nicotine consumption commonly occur together1. Long-term alcohol intake produces serious harmful effects on renal function2. Nicotine, being vasoconstrictive, increases blood pressure, potentially altering renal function3.
The incidence of smoking among individuals who abuse alcohol and opiates, is about 90 per cent, although alcoholic individuals smoke more cigarettes than those who abuse other substances4.
