Never forget, Doer tells Peace Garden service

INTERNATIONAL PEACE GARDEN -- Manitoba Premier Gary Doer urged people on both sides of the border to continue to pay homage to those who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In a speech at a ceremony here marking 9/11, Doer challenged suggestions in recent media reports that society may be tiring of such remembrances.

The attacks six years ago in New York, Washington, D.C., and aboard a passenger jet over rural Pennsylvania killed more than 3,000 people.

"It's not another date on our calendar," Doer said of Sept. 11, speaking to about 400 people gathered at this garden straddling the 49th parallel just south of Boissevain.
