Article: INCOME INEQUALITY STATISTICALLY UNCHANGED SINCE 2001

The House-Senate Joint Economic Committee issued the following news release:

According to a key Census Bureau measure, income inequality was essentially unchanged between 2001 and 2006. In response to a request by the Republican staff of the Joint Economic Committee, a statistical test performed by the Census Bureau earlier this week confirms that no statistically significant change in the inequality measure occurred between 2001 and 2006. The measure referred to here is the Gini coefficient, a standard gauge of income inequality published by the Census Bureau and widely used by economists and other researchers. The Census Bureau released the 2006 income data on August 28, 2007.
