Article: NEW RENO BATTALION CHIEF FIRST WOMAN TO HOLD POSITION; CAPTAIN, FIRE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED

The city of Reno issued the following news release:

Reno Fire Chief Paul Wagner today announced the promotion of Tamara Lopes to battalion chief, the first woman in the history of the Reno Fire Department to achieve chief officer status. Wagner also announced the promotion of four fire new captains and seven fire equipment operators.

Lopes began her career with the Reno Fire Department in March of 1986. She was promoted to captain in 2000, again becoming the first woman in the Reno Fire Department to attain that rank. She has participated as a member of the fire department's Water Entry Team (WET) and the Urban Search and Rescue team. She has twice served as the lead training captain for ...
