The town of Cicero issued the following news release:
Cicero Town President Larry Dominick was pleased to announce today that boxing great and current WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz, a Chicago native, has agreed to serve as the Grand Marshal of the town's Mexican Independence Day Parade on Saturday, September 15, at 12:00noon. The parade will begin at Cermak & Austin and run eastbound to 50th Avenue.
"It's an honor for David Diaz to serve in this capacity for the town," said Dominick. "He's a great champion and a great role model for young people of what you can accomplish if you work hard in pursuit of your dreams."
