Tompkins County issued the following press release:
Legislators acting as an Expanded Budget Committee today received their initial briefing on the County Administrator's 2008 Tentative Budget, guided through the budget document that will form the basis of their budget deliberations over the next two months.
County Administrator Steve Whicher has delivered the Legislature a recommended 2008 budget of just over $72 million in Local Spending, which meets the Legislature's goal of a tax levy increase of no more than 2 percent. The recommended budget increases local spending by only 1.2 percent and the tax levy (the total amount of property tax collected) by approximately $700,000.
