Very few educators made Ebony magazine's list of the 100 most influential African Americans. Now that the annual list has been expanded to 150 people, some black scholars are included But there are three times as many black entertainers on the list as there are black educators.
Influence may be usefully defined as the power to sway people's opinions and actions. Usually this form of power is based on an individual's prestige, wealth, ability, or position. To be influential on a national level, one must be well known and able to win the attention, if not the respect, of millions of people.
