Article: Paul Harris suit seeks millions

A lawsuit filed last week alleges the final months of Charlotte G. Fischer's reign as CEO of Paul Harris Stores Inc. were marred by a succession of severe bookkeeping problems, which went undetected by outside auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The federal suit, filed by the now-defunct women's apparel retailer in an effort to recoup millions of dollars for creditors, names the Big Four accounting firm as the sole defendant.

However, Jerry Ancel, a Sommer & Barnard attorney representing Paul Harris, said Fischer might have found herself a defendant were it not for a wide-ranging release the company granted her when she stepped down under pressure in March 2000.
