As a single mother of two boys working in Orange County, Debbie Miller struggled to make ends meet. Although Debbie's income is not below the federal poverty level, daily economic strains competed with her ability to provide food for her sons.
Debbie is just one of tens of thousands of hard-working Orange County parents whose income can't keep up with the skyrocketing housing costs. Whereas the hourly wage needed for a one-bedroom apartment in Orange County is $22.33, a janitor typically earns $8.74 per hour. A retail salesperson earns $9.88 per hour, and a factory worker earns $11.92 per hour.
