The U.S. Marine Corps issued the following official news story:

Thousands of service members and civilians from across the country are expected to visit San Diego during Fleet Week San Diego 2007.

The commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Maj. Gen. Terry G. Robling, tossed the ceremonial first pitch for the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game at PETCO Park Monday, marking the official beginning of Fleet Week 2007.

The Padres organization gave more than 2,800 free tickets to military members and their families in support of the event.
