Local community groups are raising questions about how Allegheny County Jail officials deliver medical care in light of two incidents that occurred within a few days of each other this month.
The Pittsburgh NAACP has released a statement condemning the actions of Allegheny County Jail officials following an incident where an inmate was beaten into a coma. George Hooper of Hazelwood was assaulted in the Allegheny County Jail Aug. 9, but his wife Tawanda was not informed of the beating, or of the fact that her husband was unconscious, until she was told by a friend on Aug. 11.
