Icon Health and Fitness Inc., a leading manufacturer of exercise equipment, has agreed to settle allegations that the company made exaggerated weight loss claims regarding its Cross Walk Treadmill.
The Federal Trade Commission said Icon has agreed to back up claims of weight loss and calorie burning in the company's infomercials and advertising. The company must also make it clear to consumers that they shouldn't expect the same results as those touting the product.
The makers of the Abflex abdominal exerciser and Lifecycle stationary bicycle and an infomercial producer also signed consent agreements with the FTC to settle similar allegations.
