Article: DOT Grant to Reduce N.Y.C. Traffic Offers Little for Congestion Pricing

The Transportation Department said it will give New York City $354.5 million to help pay for a broad plan to reduce traffic in Manhattan, although the grant did not include significant funding for the city's controversial congestionpricing proposal.

The Aug. 14 announcement followed nearly two months of uncertainty over whether or not the plan, which would charge trucks and cars a daily fee for entering the central business district, would receive federal funding.

New York City would receive $1.6 million initially, but the state Legislature must approve the overall plan by March 31 before the city will be eligible for the remaining $352.9 million.
