Article: STATE REP. HERSHEY'S BILL TO EXPAND EDUCATION OF UMBILICAL CORD DONATION APPROVED BY STATE HOUSE

Pennsylvania State Rep. Art Hershey, R-Chester (13th District), issued the following news release:

Providing greater education and awareness of the option to donate umbilical cord blood for medical treatments is the goal of legislation authored by state Rep. Art Hershey (R-Chester) and approved today by the state House.

Umbilical cord blood is the blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta after the birth of a newborn child. Stem cells found in umbilical cord blood have been used to successfully treat approximately 80 diseases, including leukemia, sickle cell disease and some metabolic diseases.
