Article: Congress initiates reauthorization hearings on the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Act

For over a decade the United States has been taking an increasingly toug her approach to juvenile justice Consequently, children as young as 12 and 13 are being waived to adult court in unprecedented numbers, and serving lengthy prison terms.

On July 12, 2007 Congress began reauthorization hearings on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act that was codified into law in 1974 and reauthorized in 1992, 1997 and 2002.
