Gov. Linda Lingle, R-Hawaii, issued the following proclamation:
For more than a century, the American Red Cross has been at the forefront of helping Americans prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, both large and small. The organization, its volunteers and donors also provide valuable tools and education to individuals, families, workplaces and schools, making communities across the nation stronger and more resilient.
On both the national and local levels, the Red Cross relies on its volunteers to give of their time, energy and money to enable the organization to respond to emergencies and train people with valuable lifesaving skills.
