Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, has issued the following proclamation:

WHEREAS, each year Alaska's harsh winter weather claims lives, disrupts commerce, and damages property. As we enter a new winter season, I encourage citizens of Alaska to think ahead and prepare to respond to the various winter weather hazards: frigid arctic cold, heavy snow accumulations, avalanches, freezing rain, strong winds, blizzards, life-threatening wind chill temperatures, black ice, huge ocean waves, volatile sea and river ice conditions, and coastal flooding.
