Article: CEDAR RAPIDS POLICE CHIEF ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

The city of Cedar Rapids issued the following news release:

Cedar Rapids Police Chief Michael Klappholz has announced his intention to retire from the police department as of March 7, 2008.

Klappholz, 54, has been with the Police Department for 33 years, working his way through the officer ranks, until he was appointed chief of police for the state's second largest city in March, 1999.

Klappholz said he had been talking for several months with City Manager Jim Prosser about his plans for retirement. He made the announcement now in order to give the City ample time to find his successor.
