Article: Florida Inventors Develop Toner Cartridge with Microcontroller

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 24 -- Steven Miller of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Herman Schnell of Coral Springs, Fla., have developed a toner cartridge with a microcontroller.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the invention relates to a "toner cartridge having a microcontroller configured to store data necessary to create a message authentication code required by the printer. The microcontroller contains data values capable of generating acceptable message authentication codes (MACs) for a plurality of printers.
