Article: Sunsetting on Nelson?: Cabin owners, BuRec at odds over working in lease contracts

Lora Woodward is convinced the federal government plans to terminate her lease and those of 104 others who have spent tens of thousands of dollars building, buying or improving their cabins on Nelson Reservoir.

Denials by Bureau of Reclamation that proposed new rules will have any effect on their leases have failed to reassure the Malta businesswoman and other cabin owners.

Her five-year lease and those of her neighbors on the 4,115-acre lake northeast of Malta expire in 2011. She believes proposed federal rule changes are intended to eliminate private vacation cabins that the agency manages in 17 states In Montana, that means the leases at Nelson and 22 more on Fresno Reservoir near Havre.
