Article: Lib Dem's resignation to benefit Labour in UK

Report from the HT-Pioneerxxxxx brought to you by the Hindustan Times

London, Oct. 17 -- Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of Britain's Liberal Democrats, dramatically resigned on Monday night, paying the price for the party's steep decline in popularity. His resignation is bound to have repercussions for the other two parties - ruling Labour and the opposition Conservatives. Campbell's exit is seen to be benefiting the Labour against the Tories.

Now the Lib Dems have started the search for their new leader. The immediate leadership betting focused on 'young turks' - Chris Huhne and Nick Clegg - both of whom were at the centre of leadership speculation during the party's conference last month.
