Mayor Samuel S. Brown of Lauderdale Lakes was honored for his years of service, in a "Legacy of Hope Tribute", held at Diamantes Banquet Center, in Tamarac recently. Brown was elected the first Black mayor of that city in 1998. In attendance were commissioners from the cities of Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Miramar, as well as Broward County Mayor Josephus Eggelletion and Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Dr. Brenda Snipes, who is also a neighbor and friend of Brown and his wife. Mayor Brown, who has been involved with many charitable activities, has launched a local scholarship fund for underprivileged high school students, in conjunction with the city.
