Article: COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF IS STILL NEEDED

Pennsylvania State Rep. Mario M. Scavello, R-Monroe (176th District), issued the following news release:

On primary Election Day, voters in Monroe County and across the state resoundingly rejected the tax shift referenda mandated by Act 1. That law, enacted as a result of the Special Session on Property Tax Relief last year, called on school districts to ask voters if they favored an increased earned income tax (EIT) or a new personal income tax (PIT) in exchange for lower school property taxes. Simply stated, Act 1 was a flop. No school district in our area approved it. The chart below indicates how substantially Act 1 referenda in Monroe County failed:
