The "harana" may be a thing of the past, but Florante Aguilar is proving there's a place for it in this technology-obsessed society.
Over the past few years, popular music entreated listeners to "shake it like a Polaroid" and examine our "lady bumps." Current pop star Justin Timberlake serenaded the object of his desire by crooning, "Baby I'm your slave, I'll let you whip me if I misbehave."
This is a far cry from this typical harana (serenade) lyric from "Dungawin Mo, Hirang" by Santiago Suarez:
Dungawin mo, hirang
Ang nananambitan
Kahit sulyap mo man lamang
Iyong idampulay
Sapagkat ikatu lamang
Ang tanging dalanginan
