WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 -- Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, has introduced the Federal Consent Decree Fairness Act (S. 2289), legislation that would "amend chapter 111 of title 28, U.S. Code, to limit the duration of federal consent decrees to which state and local governments are a party."
The bill, introduced on Nov. 1, was co-sponsored by Sens. Mark Pryor, D-Arkansas; Jon Kyl, R-Arizona; Ben Nelson, D-Nebraska; John Cornyn, R-Texas; Bob Corker, R-Tennessee; Thad Cochran, R-Mississippi; Kay B. Hutchison, R-Texas; and Pete V. Domenici, R-New Mexico. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
