Aging in place is hardly a new concept to the field of aging, and for good reason: Most people wish to live in their own homes and communities as they age. However, achieving this goal remains a challenge, especially because of the common accrual of chronic conditions that threaten to make independent living all but impossible for many. Research has revealed a great deal about these conditions and how to forestall some of them or, at least, compensate for them. Chief among these problems are conditions that threaten elders' cognitive function and mobility. If one can't think clearly or get around easily, remaining independent is difficult
