Article: Ban on selling spray paint to kids eyed

CITY hall is planning to make good on its threat to prohibit the sale of spray paint to kids and to make it illegal for kids under the age of 18 to possess a can of spray paint -- all in an effort to combat graffiti.

Bob Okabe, supervisor of public service operations in the public works department, is proposing the city pass a bylaw to crack down on graffiti.

"Graffiti vandalism is a criminal act that affects all members of our community," Okabe stated in a report to the infrastructure and public works committee. "Cleaning up graffiti vandalism is important but taking steps to prevent it is a better long-term solution."
