Corzine to sign bill requiring public disclosure of conditions acquired in hospitals

The public will soon-and for the first time-learn how frequently patients acquire potentially life-threatening infections at each of the state's 79 general hospitals.

The state Department of Health and Senior Services has not disclosed to the public data in recent years on the rates of staph and other infections at hospitals. Staph infections include boils and itchy skin conditions that can be picked up from contaminated objects and spread from person to person.
