Article: DOH encourages healthy snacks for kids

In order to promote growth and encourage healthy eating habits among school-aged children, nutritionists advise parents to have regularly spaced health snacks a part of their children's diets.

"Snacks are essential during periods of high nutrition needs such as growth spurts." explained Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque 3rd. "Children are usually unable to take enough food at main meals to meet their nutritional needs due to the small capacity of their stomachs. Therefore, nutritious snacks contribute a lot to the daily energy and nutrients requirements in a child's diet."

These healthy snacks include sandwiches and fresh fruits and not just salty chips or sugary artificial drinks.
