THE chatter following a preview presentation of Tempting Providence was not about the compelling tale of Newfoundland nurse Myra Bennett or the play's exceptional cast. Rather, it was about the astonishing performance of a lowly tablecloth.
Patrons exiting Prairie Theatre Exchange Wednesday night were abuzz about the hardest-working linen in show business. The cream-coloured tablecloth, which lay so innocuously on a table as the lights came up on Tempting Providence, displayed surprising versatility as it was folded and knotted and scrunched into everything from a rocking crib and bread dough to a backpack and oven door.
