STONE HARBOR - Repealing one of its rather odd laws, Stone Harbor on Tuesday allowed "open" flags to hang in front of downtown businesses during the summer.
Shops in the central business district could only use flags to indicate they were open from September through May.
The law, which Borough Council passed unanimously, allows them all year long.
Mayor Suzanne Walters said the law had been on the books for a long time after worries the flags could clutter the shopping areas.
But Stone Harbor repealed part of the law several years ago, Walters said, when it allowed businesses outside the downtown 96th Street district to use the flags in the summer.
