Depression has been referred to as the "common cold of mental illness" (Chapman, 2006), indicating its growing incidence in this country as well as throughout the world. Mental health facilities and programs are no longer the only practice settings where occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants can expect to work with persons with depression.
