Researchers reported that sensitivity by clinicians to the subtle early signs of autism spectrum disorders can speed prompt intervention during a child's critical development period. The need for early diagnosis and intervention in children with these disorders was highlighted in two reports issued at the American Academy of Pediatrics meeting in San Francisco, and published simultaneously in the November issue of Pediatrics. The reports focused on identifying and evaluating children with the disorders and on subsequent clinical management.
