SUMMARY
Occupational therapy practitioners can help clients with chronic pain to regain control of their lives.
Chronic pain affects one in four Americans, or 50 million people.1 People living with uncontrolled chronic pain report an inability to work, exercise, socialize, sleep, have sex, or do chores.2 It has been reported that 58% of people with chronic pain have coexisting depressive symptoms.3 Arthritis and back problems, both commonly associated with pain, continue to be the leading causes of disability in the United States.4 Still, only one in four people with pain reports satisfactory pain control,2 up to 80% of nursing home residents have uncontrolled or untreated pain,5 and back ...
