Article: PT: Microsoft Gets Office 2007 SP1 out the Door Early; Testing of the service pack was scaled back to large enterprises in the Technology Adopter Program and internally at Microsoft.

The Office team has beaten its own deadline of early 2008 for releasing Office 2007 Service Pack 1, which will now be available to customers on December 11.

At its annual TechEd IT Forum conference in Barcelona in November, Microsoft said that Office 2007 SP1 would be available in early 2008 and would bring improvements in stability, security and performance. It would also be compatible with Windows Server 2008, the company said at that time.

But one of the ways the software maker was able to bring the service pack to the market early was by limiting its testing.
