Smith downs Ellis in thrilling winner-take-all final to claim first POWERade title

Much like Funny Car champ Tony Pedregon, who left the relative comfort of John Force Racing in late 2003 to field his own team, Matt Smith made a similar decision last season when he parted ways with the G Squared Motorsports group to race on his own. Like Pedregon, Smith's ambitious decision proved to be a great career move when he was crowned the 2007 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion.
