The European Progestin Club (EPC) was founded in 1996. Eleven years later, a scientific session was held on June 7, 2006 in Istanbul, Turkey on the occasion of the 7th European Congress on Menopause and Andropause. In keeping with the scientific interest of the EPC, the effects of progestins on various organs (endometrium, vascular system, brain, breast, colon, bone) were presented in detail.
An important area of progestogen use is in the climacteric woman with an intact uterus. Since long-term use may be indicated, the type of progestogen, as well as the mode of application, needs to be considered, and the additional effects of each progestogen have to be taken into account.
