Teaching ECET Students to Be Self-Directed Learners with First-Year Projects and Amateur Radio

Abstract

The first two years of an Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program have been enhanced by adding application-oriented projects including an amateur radio receiver to the curriculum, using state-of-the-art techniques (e.g., digital signal processing, software-defined radios, and surface-mount technology). Today's Electrical Engineering (EE) and ECET students are less likely to be electronics enthusiasts than students of earlier generations were.
