Article: SEN. WEBB CALLS ON VA SECRETARY PEAKE TO IMPLEMENT INCREASE IN DISABLED VETERANS' TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT

The office of Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., has issued the following news release:

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) this week joined a bipartisan group of twelve Senators in a letter requesting the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Secretary James Peake, to announce a much needed 17.5 cent per mile increase in the amount disabled veterans are reimbursed for traveling to V.A. hospitals to receive care.

Senator Webb co-sponsored legislation allocating $125 million in the Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Act for the reimbursement increase. In order for the reimbursement rate to take effect, Secretary Peake must now officially announce the increase and direct the V.A. to implement the new ...
