WASHINGTON -- After Super Tuesday primaries that left Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama deadlocked for the Democratic presidential nomination, strategists for both candidates acknowledged Wednesday they are now girding for a protracted campaign that could pit grassroots voters against the party's elite at a divisive brokered convention.

"Every single delegate is going to matter a great deal," said Howard Wolfson, Clinton's communications director. "As we get farther and farther into this, it is less and less likely that either side will be able to significantly amass a large delegate lead."
